On Airplanes

Airplane travel can be very intimidating for those with allergies. However it can open up a world of adventure. It’s important to plan ahead to ensure a safe trip. Keep these important tips in mind:

  • Contact your airline in advance regarding their allergy policy.
  • Have a doctor’s note confirming your need to fly with medication.
  • Carry additional medication (e.g. epinephrine auto-injector) with you.
  • Bring your own safe food and do not eat airline food.
  • Alert the flight attendants about your allergy and inquire whether any special accommodations can be made (e.g. no selling peanuts around your row).
